How to Send Bulk Emails from Gmail
You can email a few hundred people a day from a normal Gmail account if you respect Gmail's limits and write to people who expect to hear from you. This is how to do it properly.
Step 1: Set up Gmail for sending
- Open your Google account security settings and turn on 2-step verification.
- Search for App passwords, create one for "Mail" and copy the 16 letters.
- Paste your Gmail address and that App Password into your sending software. Never use your normal password.
Step 2: Know the limits
A free Gmail account sends roughly 500 emails a day and a Google Workspace account roughly 2,000. Staying well below is wise: new accounts should start with 50 to 100 a day and grow. Sending too fast or to people who mark you as spam can get the account limited or suspended.
Step 3: Write for one person
- Use the person's name in the subject and the first line.
- Keep it short and give one clear reason for the email.
- Avoid ALL CAPS, many exclamation marks and misleading subjects.
- Do not attach large files. Link to them instead.
Step 4: Give a way out
Add a line such as "If you do not want these emails, reply STOP" and honour it. In TechBotMaster this line and an unsubscribe header are added for you, and one button reads your inbox for STOP replies and bounces and adds those addresses to a do-not-email list.
Step 5: Clean your list
Emails to addresses that do not exist hurt your reputation. Remove duplicates and wrong addresses before sending and stop mailing addresses that bounce. The list cleaner and the bounce protection in TechBotMaster Gmail Sender do this.
Using your own domain?
If you send from your own domain (for example info@yourshop.com) through Google Workspace, set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC records for the domain. They tell mail providers that your emails are genuine.
Questions people ask
How many emails can I send from Gmail in a day?
Roughly 500 from a free account and 2,000 from Google Workspace. Start much lower with a new account.
Why do I need an App Password?
Gmail does not let programs log in with your normal password. An App Password is a separate password for one program that you can delete any time.
